Midlake, The Courage of Others

After a three year absence, Texas based folk-rockers Midlake will return to action in 2010 with its third album and a heavy touring schedule. Dubbed “The Courage of Others,” the eleven song set will be released on February 2 on Bella Union. The group recently constructed a new studio in their hometown of Denton, Texas, where “Courage” was recorded.

While the group has largely remained under the radar over the years, Texas bands such as Okkervil River and Shearwater have newfound popularity and could set the stage for a breakout yet for Midlake. Although its first album, 2004’s “Banman and Slivercork,” has only sold 9,000 according to Nielsen SoundScan, Midlake has shown promise with 2006’s “The Trials of Van Occupanther,” which has sold 40,000 and yielded two
successful songs in “Roscoe” and “Bandits,” the latter of which was used earlier this year on an episode of the Fox show “Fringe.”
